Other attractions are the R.H.S Gardens at Rosemoor,
Tapeley House, Castle Drogo, the Tamar Lakes and Otter
Sanctuary, as well as the wild beauty of Exmoor, Dartmoor
and Bodmin Moor. Boscastle, Tintagel, Padstow with Rick Stein's restaurant and
the Eden project are within comfortable driving distance.
Recently opened in Plymouth is a large shopping centre, more
locally there is Atlantic Village at Bideford.
There is lovely coastal walking and rambling with most of the local
Cornish beaches being dog-friendly or with areas allowed for dogs.
Both Bude and Widemouth beaches are sandy with rockpools and excellent for
surfing. For cyclists, safe cycling along the Tarka trail is
within easy reach, and there are local wooded areas open to
the public for bird watching. Archery and horse riding are available
nearby, as are coarse, trout and fly fishing facilities, and
with water sports on the Tamar and Roadford Lakes ...
everything for an enjoyable holiday whether or not you are
on a woodcarving course.
We are currently restoring the hedges and planting trees
in our 4.5 acre meadowland to provide a tranquil haven for
visiting birds and wildlife, including Phil, our colourful
resident pheasant. Amongst the species we have planted are
alder, willow, red oak, hazel and spindle, some of which we
are now harvesting and using for our woodcarving
courses and own work.
Bantams and chickens roam freely and we can often
supply our visitors with our freerange eggs.
