Made from a single piece of
Yew wood, Jill reclines on the sofa, high heeled
shoes kicked off, and lays her book aside to dip
into her box of Milk Tray chocolates. Finished
in wax polish and about 18in long x 10 in wide.
I used the contrasting colour of the sapwood so
that she has a blonde hairdo.
To clear away
the wood beneath Jill's sofa I used a brace and
bit drill and a small keyhole saw. Backbent
gouges were used to shape the inner edges of the
bulbous sofa legs, followed by flatter gouges to
smooth the surfaces.
Jill is very
fond of chocolates, she has finished the top
layer of this box and is making a start on the
next level. She lays down her book ('Heart
Throb for Hire' - Mills and Boone) and dips
into the box.
Her stockings
are textured using a fine punch so that they
contrast with the polished smooth area of her
skirt.
Being of a
certain age, Jill needs spectacles to read her
book and she has has them on a chain so they do
not go astray. The lacey edge of her petticoat
peeks out from under her blouse.
At the back of
her head she wears a bow. Her blouse is textured
using tiny shallow gouge cuts to contrast with
the large smooth polished area of her skirt.
